Aletta Jacobs' bust

In 1870, Aletta Jacobs was accepted as an auditor at Blik's Hoogere Burgerschool in Sappemeer, becoming the first girl in the Netherlands to attend an HBS. Since 1951, the school has borne her name, and in front of the building stands a bust of Aletta Jacobs, unveiled in 1979 on the centenary of her graduation.
