Aletta Jacobs' family house

The Jacobs family moved into this house in Sappemeer (Noorderstraat 19) around 1858, when Aletta Jacobs' father, Dr Abraham Jacobs, left the village of Kiel-Windeweer to practise medicine in a larger and more prosperous community. From 1858 to 1875, Aletta lived in this house with her parents and ten brothers and sisters, spending most of her childhood and youth there, from the age of four to twenty-one. Inside, the original ceiling decorations, shutters and period fireplaces are still visible, preserving the charm of the family home.
