This is the monument to the famous physician and surgeon Andrea Vaccà-Berlinghieri, who died in 1826 in Pisa.
The municipality wanted to dedicate him a monument in the Monumental Cemetery, located in Pisa (Piazza del Duomo, 17), the same cemetery in which we can find Vaccà-Berlinghieri's tomb.
The work, commissioned to the Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen, represents the Biblical episode of "Tobias and the Angel", and it was inaugurated on February 14th, 1830.
