Angiolo Nespoli's tomb

This funeral monument of Angiolo Nespoli can be seen in the Basilica of Santissima Annunziata in Florence (Piazza della Santissima Annunziata). It is a work of Italian sculptor Lorenzo Bartolini who sculpted it in 1840 in the chapel of S.Pellegrino Laziosi, on the right side of the church.

In the marble decoration there is an interesting detail: the final part of what seems to be a stethoscope, in the use of which Nespoli was one of the best Italian pioneers. If so, this could be one of the earliest artistic representations of the instrument invented by René Laennec.
