Antonio Maria Valsalva's memorial tablet

This marble tablet to the memory of Antonio Maria Valsalva can be seen in the entrance hall of the Surgical Pavilion of the Policlinico Sant'Orsola-Malpighi in Bologna (via Albertoni, 15).

The managers of the hospital arranged for the tablet the very year of Valsalva's death (1723), as can be read in the latin inscription: "D[eo]. O[ptimo]. M[aximo]. / ANTONIO.M.VALSALVAE / IMOLENSI / PHIL.MEDIC.ET.ANAT / CELEBERRIMO / HUIUS NOSOCOMII / PER.V.LUSTRA.CHIRURGO / MIRIS.CURATIONIBUS / AC / SINGULARIBUS.DONIS / BENEFICENTISSIMO / HIC / CONSERVATORES / B.M.PP. / A.QUO.OBIIT.CIƆ.IƆCCXXIII / AETATIS.EIUS.LVII".
