Astley Paston Cooper's memorial tablet

This memorial tablet of Astley Paston Cooper can be found in the entrance hall to the chapel of Guy's Hospital, in London.

It remembers that " BY HIS OWN PARTICULAR DESIRE, / HIS REMAINS HAVE BEEN DEPOSITED / IN THE VAULT BELOW, / WITHIN THE PRECINCTS OF THE INSTITUTION / IN WHICH HE RECEIVED HIS PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION, / AND WHICH, / HAVING CONTRIBUTED TO THE DEVELOPMENT, / ENJOYED THE BENEFITS, AND SHARED THE LUSTRE / OF THOSE REMARKABLE TALENTS, / WHICH WON FOR THEIR POSSESSOR, / THE UNDISPUTED TITLE OF / THE FIRST SURGEON OF HIS AGE. /
TO MARK THE RESTING PLACE OF / SO DISTINGUISHED A MAN, / AND TO EVINCE THEIR SENSE OF / HIS SERVICES TO THE HOSPITAL, / THE GOVERNORS / HAVE CAUSED THIS TABLET TO BE ERECTED / ON THE OCCASIONE OF / THE REPAIR AND DECORATION OF THE CHAPEL / IN THE YEAR OF OUR LORD 1858".
