Axel Munthe's memorial plaque

This memorial plaque of Axel Munthe and of some members of his family can be seen on a perimeter wall of the Protestant Cemetery of Rome (Via Caio Cestio, 6), near John Keats' tomb. Munthe lived and worked for some years in Rome in the same house where John Keats had lived during the last months of his short life. Axel Munthe - who, on the contrary, lived more than ninety years - wanted his body to be cremated and his ashes to be scattered into the North Sea.
