Blaise of Sebastea

Blaise of Sebastea was born in the 3rd century in Sebaste. After becoming a doctor and having acquired a reputation as a healer, in 285 he was elected bishop. During a persecution against the Christians he was imprisoned and subjected to atrocious torture, only to be beheaded on February 3, 316. One of the oldest cults of San Biagio is linked to the city of Comiso, where in the fourth century a small Byzantine community built a church dedicated to the Saint physician and martyr.
