This monument to Carlos Finlay can be observed in Havana (Avenida 23) next to “Parque Almendares”. The monument was erected on July 13th, 1947, as a tribute by the Lions Club.
On the back of the monument there is this Spanish inscription:”EN ESTE MUNICIPIO INICIO / FINLAY EN 1881 SUS TRABAJOS / EXPERIMENTALES SOBRE / FIEBRE AMARILLA / COMPROBADOS IGUALMENTE EN / ESTA LOCALIDAD VEINTE ANOS / MAS TARDE / EL CLUB DE LEONES DE MARIANAO / RINDE DEVOTO HOMENAJE / AL GRAN BENEFACTOR QUE LIBERO / AL TROPICO DE SU MAS / TEMIDO AZOTE".
(In this municipality, Finlay started his experimental work on yellow fever in 1881 which was also tested in this town twenty years later. The Marianao Lions Club pays homage to the great benefactor who liberated the tropics from his most feared scourge)
