Clara Barton's birthplace
Clara Barton, nurse and founder of American Red Cross, was born in this house of North Oxford, Massachusetts the 25 December 1821.
She "was the youngest of five children. Her father, a farmer and former soldier, was a socially aware, respected member of the community who was a believer in abolitionism and the importance of education. Her mother had a strong will, waspoken n women's rights, and taught Barton the importance of thrift and cleanliness"1.
Barton's birthplace now hosts a Museum.
