Dorothea Erxleben's birthplace

In the heart of Quedlinburg's historic Neustadt district in Steinweg 51 – now a UNESCO World Heritage Site – stands the birthplace of Dorothea Erxleben. Built in 1705 as a simple half-timbered structure, this building is where Dorothea was born in 1715, making it a key landmark in the history of women in medicine. Over time, the house has undergone numerous transformations: around 1780, it was renovated in the late Baroque style, while in the 19th century, further work was carried out to adapt it to the tastes of the time. In 1997, it was proposed that a memorial dedicated to Dorothea Erxleben be established here.
