Eladia Fernández-Espartero y Blanco's monument

This beautiful monument to the memory of Spanish noblewoman and nurse Eladia Fernández-Espartero y Blanco can be seen in front of the Hospital Central de la Cruz Roja San José y Santa Adela in Madrid (Avenida Reina Victoria 24). The monument was inaugurated in 1925 by the Queen Victoria Eugenia de Battenberg. The Spanish inscription under the monument reads as follows: "A LA DUQUESA DE LA VICTORIA / INSIGNE BIENHECHORA DE LOS SOLDADOS HERIDOS / Y ENFERMOS POR LA CAMPAÑA DE MARRUECOS / LA NACION AGRADECIDA" (To the Duchess of Victory / great benefactress of wounded soldiers / and sick from the Campaign of Morocco / the thankful Nation).
