Farmacia dell'Assunta

A well preserved 19th century chemist's shop - the "Farmacia dell'Assunta" - can be seen under the porticos of the central Piazza Martiri in Carpi (Modena). The chemist's shop was arranged at the midst of 19th century by pharmacist Luigi Lugli1.

In the interior of the shop - still active - can be admired, along with many old medicine bottles, some frescoes and a statue of Our Lady of the Assumption, the marble busts of eight renowned scientists such as Hippocrates, Claudius Galen, Thomas Sydenham, Herman Boerhaave, Jöns Jacob Berzelius, Justus von Liebig and, of course, Jacopo Berengario da Carpi and Bernardino Ramazzini.
