Ferdinando Palasciano funeral monument

The most solemn of monuments in the Quadrato degli uomini illustri (Square of illustrious figures, 7th block, n.134) in the Poggioreale Cemetery of Naples is the one dedicated to the memory of Ferdinando Palasciano. His widow, Olga Wawilow, wanted the monument to be erected in the highest position of the hill so that she could see it from her house.

The marble statue of Palasciano can be admired at the top of a stone staircase. At the base of the staircase an almost illegible inscription with just the name of the celebrated surgeon and patriot: "FERDINANDO PALASCIANO".
