Filippa Mareri's1 monastery is located in Borgo San Pietro (Piazza Santa Filippa, 17). Formerly, the town was a long way downstream; nowadays it is situated by the river Salto, on the bank of an artificial lake at 550 metres above sea level, in the middle of Circolano. Filippa Mareri's monastery2 stands in the new residential area, rebuilt on behalf of fascist government, after a flood destroyed the old one in 1940.
THE NEW MONASTERY'S FACADE
The new monastery's facade dates back to 1940, when the complex was rebuilt after the flood.
THE MONASTERY'S CLOISTER:
The cloister is a constituent part of the monastery, consisting of a central uncovered area, which leads to the main convent rooms.
In the middle of the cloister there is the statue of Saint Francis.
