François-Vincent Raspail's mutilated monument

This mutilated monument of François-Vincent Raspail can be found in Paris (gardens of Place Denfert-Rochereau). A bronze statue of Raspail by French sculptor Léopold Morice was erected here in 1889 but then was destroyed, as many others medical and non medical monuments, during the German occupation of Paris in 19421. Anyway, the "impressive base still stands there and has two bronze bas-reliefs by Morice; one shows Raspail tending an impoverished patient, the other his proclamation of the Second Republic at the Hotel de Ville in 1848"2.
