Friedrich Althoff bust

This bronze bust of Friedrich Althoff is located in the Charité campus, Berlin, in front of the new administration building. This bust was created in order to reward Friedrich Althoff for his successful work as financier of the Charité. His possible commemoration was already mentioned in 1888 when the direction of the institute thanked him as he had financed the construction of the administration building, indeed he was named as "the creator of the new Charité building" by Otto Heubner. The Charité directors, clinic and institute directors collected donations and commissioned a bust with a pedestal to Ferdinand Hartzer. The inauguration of the monument took place on the 13th February 1903.1

The German inscription on the marble basement reads as follows: "GEWIDMET / IN DANKBARER / ERINNERUNG AN DIE / NEUGESTALTUNG / DER CHARITÉ / 1903"
("DEDICATED IN A GRATEFUL REMINDER OF THE CHARITÉ'S RENEWAL")
