George Bacon Wood's portrait
This oil-on-canvas portrait of George Bacon Wood by Bernard Uhle can be seen in the Mutter Museum of College of Physicians of Philadelphia.
Because of the chronology of Uhle's career, this portrait was very probably copied from an earlier source. Uhle was abroad between 1875 and 1879, the year of Wood's death, and was not steadily employed in making portraits until 1880. The collection at the College contains a photograph taken by Frederick Gutekunst and dated 1870 that is almost identical to the Uhle painting in pose, position, costume, and it is a likely source of this portrait.
