A simple tomb - quite as shabby as the near Andrea Verga's one - in the East wing of the Crypt of the Famedio (Hall of Fame)¹ in the Monumental Cemetery of Milan contains the remains of Giovan Battista Monteggia.

On the gravestone, can be read the following inscription: "GIOVANNI BATTISTA MONTEGGIA / MEDICO CHIRURGO SCRITTORE / PERITISSIMO / NATO A LAVENO L'8 AGOSTO 1762 - MORTO A MILANO IL 17 GENNAIO 1815 / QUI AD ONORE DEPONEVA / IL COMUNE DI MILANO / MDCCCLXXXVII".
