Giovanni Girolamo Sbaraglia's memorial

This memorial monument of Giovanni Girolamo Sbaraglia can be seen in the Palazzo dell'Archiginnasio (Piazza Galvani 1), the first seat of Bologna's University. Sbaraglia (1641-1710) was professor of Anatomy and Medicine in the University for more than forty years.

The painting was made by painter Donato Creti in 1713 and represents Experience (with eyes in her hands) and Reason indicating the bronze medallion with the bas-relief bust of the physician. The bronze medallion was made by sculptor Giuseppe Maria Mazza based on a drawing by Creti1.
