Giuseppe Barellai's house

Giuseppe Barellai was born on January 13th 1813 in Florence (Via dei Neri, 1). He was the head of department of the Hospital of Santa Maria Nuova (Ospedale di Santa Maria Nuova) in Florence, president of the Medical - Physics Fiorentina, promoter of the First Marine hospices for children with scofola and fighter for freedom and for italian Independence.
This marble memorial plate was affixed on the exterior wall of the palace where doctor Giuseppe Barellai lived in the nineteenth century.

The italian inscription reads as follows: “A GIUSEPPE BARELLAI / SOLDATO DELL’INDIPENDENZA ITALIANA / MAESTRO VALENTE NELL’ARTE DELLA MEDICINA / IN QUELLA DELLA CARITA‘ VALENTISSIMO / FONDATORE DEGLI OSPIZI MARINI / QUI MORTO IL 3 DICEMBRE 1884 / IL COMUNE DI FIRENZE / VOLLE CHE SI PONESSE / QUESTA MEMORIA DI GRATITUDINE“.
