After spending all his life helping the others, Giuseppe Barellai died during the night of 3th December 1884. He was buried at the Cemetery of Misericordia de' Pinti1 in Florence (Via degli Artisti) so as to honoring another of his many merits, that of being a volunteer of Misericordia Fiorentina.
Cemetery of Misericordia de' Pinti
The inscription on his tombstone reads as follows: "COMM. PROF. GIUSEPPE BARELLAI / MEDICO FIORENTINO / FONDATORE DEGLI OSPIZI MARINI / GIORNANTE BUONAVOGLIA".
"Buonavoglia" is the name given to the brother on duty, known as "giornante" by the Misericordia of Florence.
The inscription on the tombstone over the years has become illegible even if a sepulchral monument was planned under the porch2.
