Henry Walter Featherstone's portrait and memorial tablet
This oil-on-canvas portrait and the nearby marble memorial tablet of Henry Walter Featherstone can be seen in the entrance hall of The Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland's headquarters in London. Featherstone "conceived and founded" the Association in 1932, "to promote the development and study of anaesthesia as a specialised branch of medicine. Since that time there has not been any major development in British or Irish anaesthesia that has not been either initiated or promoted under its auspices, including close involvement in the negotiations that preceded the inception of the National Health Service in 1948""1.
