Hospital de Santo António

The Hospital de Santo António is one of the most remarkable hospitals in Porto (Largo do Prof. Abel Salazar). It was commissioned by the Santa Casa da Misericórdia to the English architect John Carr (1723-1807), who designed it in neoclassical style.
The architect concluded his project in 1769 and in 1770 the hospital began to be built. The works ended in 1824 after John Carr's death.
There is a small museum in two historic rooms in the building: the Museu do Centro Hospitalar do Porto, which teaches the history of medicine and pharmacology in Portugal.
