Iapyx, son of Iasus, brother of Palinurus, was a wound healer and a battlefield surgeon of Greek mythology and one of the characters of the Aeneid. He was described in the XII book, as the Trojans' doctor. There is a wonderful fresco in the Museo Archeologico Nazionale (you can see it on the link above this description) , that portrays doctor Iapyx removing an arrow head from the thigh of Aeneas. According to a tradition, his house could have been The Surgeon's home in Pompeii.
