Jean Baptiste Lamarck's monument

Immediately after the main entrance to the Jardin des Plantes in Paris you can find this solemn monument to the memory of Jean Baptiste Lamarck. The bronze statue and the bas-relief on the back of the monument are works of French sculptor Léon Fagel, while the architecture was designed by the architect Victor Blasette. Thanks to an international subscription started in 1906, 45.000 Francs were raised and the monument was solemnly inaugurated on June 13, 1909, by the President of French Republic, Armand Fallières1.
