Luigi Ferdinando Marsili's monument and head

In 1733 a stucco baroque monument by Italian sculptor Angelo Gabriello PiĆ² was dedicated to the memory of Luigi Ferdinando Marsili in the right transept of the Basilica di San Domenico in Bologna (Piazza San Domenico). In the first half of the 20th century the head of the scientist was found in the local cemetery of Certosa and placed under the monument1.
