This memorial plaque of Saint Luigi Gonzaga is located near the main entrance to the former Ospedale della Consolazione in Rome (Via della Consolazione, 4). It was affixed on June 29th, 1928, during the celebrations for the third centennial from his canonization.
The plaque is a memento in honour of the courage and devotion that he displayed by carrying on his shoulder a person infected by the plague. This act of thoughfullness leaded him to his death on June 21st, 1591, when he was only 23 years old.
