Maria Montessori's funeral tablet

Inside the Montessori family tomb, in the Verano monumental cemetery in Rome, just a marble tablet remembers the celebrated physician and educator Maria Montessori. She died in Noordwijk (The Netherlands) and wanted to be buried in the local catholic cemetery as a demonstration of the universality of her educational ideas and methods.

The italian inscription reads as follows: "MARIA MONTESSORI / CHIARAVALLE 31 AGOSTO 1870 - NOORDWIJK 6 MAGGIO 1952 / ILLUSTRE SCIENZIATA E PEDAGOGISTA / CHE DEDICO' TUTTA LA SUA VITA AL RINNOVAMENTO / ED AL PROGRESSO SPIRITUALE DELL'UMANITA' / ATTRAVERSO IL BAMBINO / RIPOSA NEL CIMITERO CATTOLICO DI NOORDWIJK (OLANDA) / LONTANA DALLA SUA TERRA / CHE AVEVA COSI' PROFONDAMENTE AMATA / LONTANA DAI SUOI CARI QUI SEPOLTI / COSI' ELLA VOLLE A TESTIMONIANZA DELL'UNIVERSALITA' / DELLA SUA OPERA CHE LA RESE CITTADINA DEL MONDO".

Unfortunately, the Montessori family tomb today appears quite abandoned and shabby.
