Nowadays, some ancient ophthalmological instruments are preserved in the Arciconfraternita dei Pellegrini - Complesso Museale of Naples (Via Portamedina, 41). The department of ophthalmology of the old Ospedale dei Pellegrini is of historically relevant importance because here in Naples, one of the firsts italian Eye Banks was born.
"The eye bank is an institution that brings together the concept of "humanity". It is the third center in Italy (the other two are in Padua and one in nearby Dolo in the province of Vicenza) and the seventh in Europe. It is a complex donated by the clubs of the "Rotary" citizens. The favorable opinion of the Ministry of Health is dated 13 December 1974."1
Professor Francesco Menna was the first doctor who run the Bank eye. Subsequently, this was entrusted to Bruno Mastursi.
