Ospedale Civile dell'Annunziata

The ancient hospital

The "Ospedale Civile dell’Annunziata” in Cosenza (Via Felice Migliori, 1) dates back to the XV century when a rich patron of the city Antonio de Franco wanted to create a Hospital for orphans and young mothers.1 The Institute was named SS.Annunziata because during an important fair in her honor was organized a fund raising for the benefit of the hospital2.

Nowadays

During the centuries the Hospital has been renovated many times and finally rebuilt in 1939.3 The new hospital, called "Ospedale Principe di Napoli", was damaged by the bombing in April 1943 during the Second World War, the same that completely destroyed the Ancient Hospital4.

After the War, the Hospital took back its old name5 and now it is located in a street named after Felice Migliori, the surgeon who worked the hardest to improve the administration and the whole hospital.
