Ospedale Pediatrico Bambino Gesù memorial tablet

This marble memorial tablet remembers the original location of the Ospedale pediatrico Bambino Gesù in Rome (via delle Zoccolette, 19). One of the first hospitals for children in Italy, it was founded in March 1869 by Dukes Scipione Salviati and his wife Arabella Fitz-James. The memorial tablet was unveiled in 2009 by the board of the Hospital.

Although of very small size, that first hospital had some innovative features, such as a special room for children who had recently undergone surgery (a sort of pioneering intensive care unit)1.
