This marble tablet, dedicated to Swiss alchemist, physician and surgeon Paracelsus, can be seen along the access stairway of the Biblioteca Ariostea in Ferrara (Via delle Scienze, 17).
The Italian inscription reads as follow:
“IN QUESTO ATENEO/ CONSEGUÌ LA LAUREA IN MEDICINA/ IL GRANDE SCIENZIATO TEDESCO/ THEOPHRASTUS BOMBASTUS VON HOHENHEIM/ DETTO PARACELSUS/ INIZIATORE DI NUOVI SISTEMI TERAPEUTICI/ MAESTRO DELLA SCIENZA MEDICA MODERNA/ FILOSOFO NATURALISTA DI DIGNITÀ EUROPEA.”
(In this University the great Dutch scientist Theophrastus Bombastus Von Hohenheim, called Paracelsus, initiator of new therapeutic systems, master of modern medical science, naturalist philosopher of European prestige, graduated in Medicine).
