Pietro Lazzati's monument

Facing outwords in the central arch of East superior Loggia of the Monumental Cemetery of Milan, this monument (1871) by the sculptor Vincenzo Vela was erected in memory of the patriot and physician Pietro Lazzati (1813-1871). The memorial, which was originally situated in another section of the Cemetery consists of a trangular base with three sculpted reliefs, illustrating different aspects of Lazzati's life1.

On the back basament of the monument, there is the following inscription: "AL / DOTTORE PIETRO LAZZATI / PROFESSORE DI OSTETRICIA DIRETTORE / DELL'OSPIZIO DI MATERNITA' IN / MILANO SUA CITTA' NATALE / BENEMERITO DELLA PATRIA E DELLA SCIENZA / PER SPONTANEE OBLAZIONI / 1871".
