Raffaele Piria's bust

This marble bust of Raffaele Piria is one of the Medical Monuments in the University of Turin central building and can be seen in the first floor gallery (north side). It is a work of sculptor Giacomo de Barbieri and was finished in 18711.

Under the bust, a bronze tablet with an Italian inscription dictated by Enrico d'Ovidio2 reads as follows: "A / RAFFAELE PIRIA / SOMMO CHIMICO ARDENTE PATRIOTA / PROFESSORE NELLE UNIVERSITA' DI PISA DI TORINO / CAPITANO DEGLI STUDENTI A CURTATONE A MONTANARA / MINISTRO DELLA ISTRUZIONE IN NAPOLI / DOPO IL PLEBISCITO / COLLEGHI DISCEPOLI / RACCOLTE DA OGNI PARTE D'ITALIA LE OFFERTE / XVII ANNO DOPO LA SUA MORTE / PR / —- / NATO A SCILLA XX AGOSTO MDCCCXIII / MORTO A TORINO XVIII LUGLIO MDCCCLXV".
