Relief for a heroized physician
This marble bas-relief of a heroized physician can be seen in the Altes Museum in Berlin (Museumsinsel). It is dated around 50 BC - 50 AD and its was acquired in 1841 from Grimani collection in Venice, Italy.
"The sculptor has taken motifs from grave reliefs, as well as from votive and hero reliefs and combined them in an untypical way. The relief is dedicated to a heroized physician and was probably displayed in his tomb precinct, which also served as his heroon, the site of hero worship"1.
