Sala "Francesco Valenti Serini"

The Sala "Francesco Valenti Serini" of the Accademia dei Fisiocritici in Siena contains an impressive collection of terracotta mushrooms models. Physician Francesco Valenti Serini, member of the Academy since 1848 and concerned with the large number of mushroom poisoning he faced with in his medical practice, decided to build a collection of models of fungi in order to teach illiterate people to distinguish between edible and poisonous species.
