As remembered by a very damaged metal plaque in September 1854 more than 500 people died in this area of Soho from cholera, before John Snow demonstrated that the very pump was the cause of contagion.

The pump's replica "WAS UNVEILED BY / COUNCILLOR DAVID WEEKS / LEADER OF WESTMINSTER CITY COUNCIL / ON / 20 JULY 1992 / ITA MARKS A PIONEERING EXAMPLE OF / MEDICAL RESEARCH IN THE SERVICE OF / PUBLIC HEALTH".
