The Wall of Travelers

The area of Loiano was for centuries an obligatory point of passage for travelers who went from Emilia to Tuscany and vice versa. In 1995, the Municipality decided to recall some of the most famous (Montaigne, Stendhal, Eisenhower…) with this monument by the sculptor Luigi E. Mattei. The only woman portrayed in the monument is obstetrician and university professor Maria Dalle Donne, who was born in 1776 (or, more probably, in 1778) in the nearby Roncastaldo.
