Villa San Michele
This famous and inspiring white-washed house in Anacapri (Viale Axel Munthe) was built and decorated by physician and writer Axel Munthe "on one of Capri's tall rocky outcrops [and] symbolises much of what man's psyche may contain in the way of dreams and ideals, a need for recognition, a longing for beauty, a longing for somewhere to belong"1. This home, well known and treasured by so many, was the subject of Axel Munthe's book The Story of San Michele, first published in 1929.
