Vincenzo Lanza's statue is one of the most important monuments in Foggia. It was put up to rembember the renowned doctor after his death occurred for apoplexy in 1860. At first it was situated in the square having the same name that now is dedicated to the musician Umberto Giordano from Foggia. At the the end of 1920s the statue was placed inside the “Villa Comunale” where you can still appreciate it.
This writing is situated on its base : VINCENZO LANZA/ OF VERY HUMBLE RELATIVES/ RAISED HIMSELF TO NOSOLOG AND CLINICIAN/ NO LONGER EQUALLED/ PRESIDENT OF HIS FACULTY/ IN THE SCIENTIFIC CONGRESS IN 1845/ AND DEPUTY IN PARLIAMENT/ EXILED FOR HIS IDEAS/ WITH UNIQUE GENERAL INDIGNATION
Thanks to the Telesforo Group in April 2016 the statue was restored and given back to the city. Now both the writing and the sculptor's name are readable again.
