Vittorio Marchi's memorial

In the central seat of the University of Modena (Via dell'Università, 4), this quite battered bust of Vittorio Marchi can be seen. Under the bust, a memorial tablet with the following italian inscription: "MDCCCLI MCMVIII / VITTORIO MARCHI / IN QUESTO ATENEO / CON GLI STUDI MEDICI E LE PRIME RICERCHE SUL SISTEMA NERVOSO / FORMO' LA MENTE ALL'INDAGINE / CHE LO CONDUSSE ALLA SCOPERTA DEL METODO IMMORTALE / FIACCOLA DEGLI ANATOMICI FISIOLOGI NEUROLOGI DI TUTTO IL MONDO / NEL DEDALO OSCURO DELLE VIE NERVOSE / XXV ANNIVERSARIO DELLA MORTE - XIV MAGGIO MCMXXXIII xi° / A.D."¹.

1. The final letters "A.D." probably stand for Arturo Donaggio, professor of Psychiatry in this University, who was the promoter of Marchi's commemoration in the 25th anniversary of his death.
