William Beaumont monument

A bronze monument to the memory of William Beaumont has been erected in the Mississippi River Sculpture Park in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, where he lived with his family and worked during some time. In this monument, Beaumont, the first pysician to observe human digestion as it occurred in the stomach, is represented with his youngest son, Israel, born while they were living in Prairie du Chien.
