William Bowman's funeral tablet

This marble funeral tablet to the memory of William Bowman can be found inside St James's Church, Piccadilly, in London (197 Piccadilly), at the left of the entrance door.

The English and Greek inscription reads as follows: "IN MEMORY OF / WILLIAM BOWMAN / BARONET F.R.S. LL.D. / PHYSIOLOGIST AND OPHTHALMIC SURGEON / HE WORKED AT HIS PROFESSION FOR 49 YEARS / IN THIS PARISH / AND WAS A WORSHIPPER IN THIS CHURCH / - / BORN A.D.1816 DIED A.D.1892 / - / YE THAT HAVE EYES, YET CANNOT SEE, / IN DARKNESS AND IN MISERY, / RECALL THOSE MIGHTY VOICES THREE, Ιεσου, ελεησον με. / Φαρσει, εγειραι. Υπαγει; / Η πιστισ σου σεσωκε σε”.
