William Howard Russell's bust

This bronze bust of Irish reporter and war correspondent William Howard Russell can be seen in the Crypt of St Paul's Cathedral in London, near Robert Hooke's memorial tablet.

Florence Nightingale credited her entry into wartime nursing to his dramatic reports for The Times during the Crimean War.

The inscription under the bust reads as follows: "Sir William Howard Russell LL.D. / The first and greatest of War Correspondents. / Crimea 1854. India 1857. / United States of America 1861. / France 1870. South Africa 1879. / Born March 28.1820. Died February 10.1907.".
