The English incription reads as follows: "SACRED / TO THE MEMORY OF / WILLIAM HUNTER, M.D., F.R.S., / CELEBRATED AS A PHYSICIAN / AND PHYSIOLOGIST. / BORN AT KILBRIDE, IN LANARKSHIRE / MAY²³ 1718, / DIED IN LONDON, MARCH 30^TH 1783".
